During the operation of the ball screw pair, it will be accompanied by wear. After a period of use, axial clearance will be formed, which will gradually reduce or even disappear the pre-tightening effect. The contact wear of high-speed ball screw is a complex micro-dynamic process. According to the wear mechanism, the wear can be roughly divided into.

1) Adhesive wear: when the contact peaks of the friction surfaces are "cold welded" at various points of interaction, the material migrates from one surface to another during relative sliding, and adhesive wear is formed.
2) Abrasive wear: the wear of two objects moving relative to each other, resulting in surface damage due to free hard particles or hard contact peaks between the external friction surfaces.
3) Fatigue wear: mechanical wear caused by fatigue damage of micro-volume of friction surface materials during repeated deformation.
4) Mechanochemical wear: wear caused by mechanical action and chemical or electrochemical action between materials and environment.
5) Fluid abrasive wear and fluid erosion wear: mechanical wear caused by the action of hard objects or hard particles entrained in flowing liquid or gas.
6) Fretting wear: a kind of hidden composite wear form which is composed of adhesive wear, abrasive wear, mechanochemical wear and fatigue wear. Due to the tiny vibration between the metal surfaces in contact with each other, the contact surface will produce oxidation wear particles which are difficult to be removed from the contact surface, and fretting wear will occur.
